What is the difference between engraving and embossing?

Engraving removes material and works tone on tone, embossing presses a relief into it. Neither needs ink — the motif comes out of the material itself.

Which materials does it work on?

That depends on the material and is checked on a sample — engraving and embossing live off how a fabric reacts to heat and pressure. That is why a material test always comes before the production run here.

When is finishing NOT the right choice?
